MYSTERY FOOD STALL

During common lunch in the first week of Term 2, students were shocked to see that the “Quench” stall, which was previously closed since the start of school in 2015, was opened and that it was selling Takoyaki, a popular Japanese snack made of wheat flour-based batter with different fillings.

It was soon revealed that the school was introducing a mystery food stall during common lunch which would sell different kinds of food that students usually do not get to buy from the canteen. This left many students in anticipation to see what the next mystery food being sold would be and it turned out to be none other than Kebab, a Mexican and Turkish delicacy!

We spoke to some NYJCians to find out how they felt about the concept of the mystery food stall, and what food they would like to see next.

I liked the taste of the food but they were rather expensive with the Takoyaki priced at $1.50 and the Kebab priced at $2.50.

Yes. It gives the students something to look forward to every week during common lunch. It is also refreshing to be able to try something new in the school canteen.

Do you like the previous mystery food stalls and why?

The taste of the Takoyaki was good. The food sold are from different countries [which] allows us to experience the culture of our friends from other countries.

With the unlimited range of food that could be featured in the mystery food stall, it leaves students guessing every week what could come next, adding some spice to the otherwise mundane JC life. Whether it will be a snack or a dessert, I am sure that it will appeal to the students!
